The greatest asset of the company is its people. - Jorge Paulo Lemann
Organizations often glorify how they treat their employees. The facilities they provide, their management practices, and even the importance they give to the growth of each individual.
They even bring out how each employee is vital to them. If people are really such big assets to the company, then why is there a lack of clarity in the minds of people regarding the credit-sharing ratio?
Why is it that we do not identify our contributions first and give all the importance to all the big firms in the world? Isn’t a firm just a platform to help us attain certain goals or improve our skill sets?
Instead of saying -, Google hired me for XYZ qualities, people often introduce themselves as employees of Google. Stating it as if they are honored and grateful to Google for hiring them. Is there a reason for undermining our own values? Is this a form of hiding behind the curtain of conformism? Or is it just our insecurities shoving our self-confidence off as well?
With the world moving into the gig economy, starting to value ourselves more by working on building OUR brand would appear to be the perception change needed in the world right now. Realizing the importance and efforts we put in as individuals must be recognized by ourselves first.
We have been enslaved in the thought that our pedagogy and institutional brand value are the supreme deciders of our fate.
The only way you can be differentiated from a pool of individuals is when YOU realize YOUR worth and contributions to the society that helped change it.
Five years down the lane, who would YOU be? If not attached to the company you are working in or the college you passed out from? Would people know you for who you are? Well, that is where Self-Branding comes into the picture. Focusing on building your skillset, and your habits and enjoying YOUR time is all that matters in the end.
Maybe give it a thought by making it a part of your new year's resolution. Happy advance Gudi Padwa and Ugadi to all my readers.
